Where do the phones go?
Earth Mobile works to ensure that the minimum amount of waste occurs as a result of the recycling of mobile phones.
Earth Mobile working with its technical partners divides the phones into three categories.
Phones that can be reused will be refurbished to as new condition; this means that the life of the product is extended which is environmentally more desirable. The phones are then exported to developing countries providing affordable first time communications and improving local communities and economies.
Phones that can be broken down for parts that can be reused and/or materials that can be extracted and recycled into the production of new phones.
Remaining unsalvageable parts are sent for certified safe disposal. Our technical partners will ensure that the disposal is in line with current legislation that governs the cycle of electrical waste into the environment. This includes the WEEE directive (Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of Waste on Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
Through our technical partners we can provide Waste Transfer Notes and Duty of Care certificates where required.
